Color of the year 2015. Olive Green

My husband and I will be moving into a new apartment, flat if you will, very soon. So instead of spending all my free time perusing the internet in search of fashion inspiration I have found myself spending an inordinate amount of time looking at home furnishings! And then I saw this:

And realized just how much I have been lusting over olive green as of late. In case you needed any inspiration here are a few things that I have seen/purchased recently and I just can't get enough of it. Whether or not pantone makes this the color of the year or not for 2015, consider it my own personal favorite heading into the new year!

work essentials. The side slit skirt

Remember when side slit skirts were all over the Pre Fall and Fall 2014 runways? No? Quick recap:

I realize that many of you, right at this moment, cannot fathom the idea of a side slit skirt as an essential. BUT, it is.

I bought a side slight skirt back in 1998(ish) and I wore it none stop for a number of years. A fantastic camel colored BCBG skirt. That I still own (and fit into) to this day. I am even wearing it here. It is because of this specific skirt and the fact that it honestly has been one of the more timeless pieces in my closet that I am telling you, the side slit skirt is something you must own.

There is no better time than now, as it is making a huge comeback, alongside the wrap skirt, and yes, I realize some of the runway options I have featured are actually wrap skirts, but work with me here. It is that subtle show of leg that is feminine, empowering and still work appropriate enough to get you taken, very, seriously.

The following options are in stores now. If you prefer to wait until the fall lines hit the shelves, around August/September I assure you there will be about a million more options out there.

Spring cleaning for your work wardrobe

It seems that Spring has shown its face across most parts of the Northern Hemisphere in the last week and a half. This past weekend in London it was a balmy 19C (66F) and with that I packed up, prematurely as the weather this week has proved, most of my heavier coats and wool sweaters. I am just ready for Spring! Nevertheless though, Spring is on its way and I am lusting over warmer weather options. I am looking for lighter materials, open knits and cleaner looks. Thanks to Zara and Need Supply for everything here.

Trending. See thru shoulders

See thru shoulders have been popping up here and there for a few seasons now. In the Fall 2014 shows they were still going strong, like here and here, from Rebecca Taylor. As we shift into spring, and want to show a little more skin, see thru shoulders are the perfect transitional wardrobe item. You can embrace spring without being so crazy as to expose your legs.

An added bonus is that you know we'll all still be sporting see thru shoulders into the fall and winter of 2014/15, if the Fall 2014 collections are any indication.

New Year, New Job. Suiting up for an interview

There are few things more nerve racking than an interview. Especially when you don't have a job, trust me, I am going through it now.

You want to come off as confident, personable, smart and hardworking; all without being overbearing. You want to ask probing questions, understand the job on offer, the expectations, the employer and the opportunity as it pertains to longer term career prospects; without making it sound like this job is merely a launching pad. A job interview is a balancing act and you are the one walking the tightrope.

The last thing you need to worry about is what you put on. An interview isn't the place to push boundaries, well not yet in the corporate world. There are some places, like advertising, fashion and media which can certainly be a different story. For the rest of us though a suit is always a safe bet for the big day. I always had a hard time finding suits that fit me, I am relatively small with almost no hips so the standard faire on offer at the local department store never worked for me. Here are some suits that are cut slimmer and are a bit more modern. Perfect for that first corporate job or for the dream job 10+ years in....

Good luck on that interview!
