Fall 2014 is in its last throws. Milan, the second to last stop, brought some standout collections, but a lot more of what we have already seen in NYFW and LFW. Like the cities before, there were a lot of pinstripes, menswear inspired looks, knits, and more coats than you could shake a stick at. What didn't really feature, or at least not in a work friendly fashion, was mixed prints or graphics.

Bottega Veneta was one of the standout lines at Fall fashion week for me. The overall look reminded me of Lauren Bacall in all her film noir classics. The hair, the lips, the silhouettes, the color palettes...the smoldering confidence.
So what about this inspires me in regards to my work wardrobe? The shapes. I love the full skirt with the turtleneck and I bet you have those items already in your closets (total score!). The reminder that a sheath dress can be so much more than the 9-5 workhorse, but yet, even with some elegant details is still SO work appropriate. Accentuated hips and shoulders DO work for work as long as you keep the colors basic and the fabric clean and simple (wool was a go to fabric for this collection). Finally, who knew marigold was such a great color and so elegant looking?

To lipstick or not to lipstick, that is the question
Lipstick is back in a big way and once again was all over the Fall 2013 runways. I think lipstick when paired with a simple fresh looking face can work for the workplace. Now if I could only find a lipstick that survives from 7am till 5pm and still looks great when it is time to grab a drink with a client. Recommendations welcome!
